Motorists should expect some delays this weekend as the Road2Hope event will shut down a number of routes around the city.

Several events are planned for tomorrow, including a 1-km run for children 12 and under, 5-km run and family walk, and 10-km fun run held at Confederation Park. All proceeds will be given to either The Joy and Hope of Haiti or City Kidz charities.

The big event will be on Sunday as thousands of runners attempt to tackle the 42-km marathon.

The long run will force the temporary closure of a large section of the east end and is expected to get under way at around 9 a.m.

The run starts on Highland Road and heads east to Hendershot Road, then south to Golf Club Road. The route winds onto portions of Trinity Church, Dickenson, Miles, Twenty, Glovers, Rymal, Pritchard and Stone Church roads before heading down the Red Hill Valley Parkway.

Runners will have to negotiate down the four-lane highway to Barton Street as the last leg of the race winds up at Woodward Avenue, under the QEW and up Beach Boulevard to Veterans' Park. The group will wind back down along the Waterfront Trail before ending at Confederation Park.

Road delays and closures are expected to last till 1 p.m.
